Those are not Rain Clouds in the Horizon________________________________________
In 2025 and 2026, dozens of communities in Great Britain have seen sites that was once green belt, green fields, agricultural land and even places designated as Local Landscapes be marked to become data centres. Those are not Rain Clouds in the Horizon is an incomplete survey of sites earmarked for data centre expansion in green and rural parts of Great Britain, as well as of the people who oppose it.
Using digital photography and engaging with it’s evolving capability for representing the physical world, the work aims to memorialize the sites that local communities would be losing to the Cloud. By progressing from straight photography and manually stitched panoramas into 360° video, photogrammetry and gaussian splatting, the work also looks to comment on the effort made by technological companies to more completely represent physical spaces through digital means.
